Sir - Can anyone tell me why Oxford residents can put garden waste out for collection only if it is in a special green plastic bag which has to be bought from the city council at 50p each?
I always thought that this meant it would be recycled.
I was happy to pay the 50p until I saw my green bag being thrown in the dustcart with all the normal household rubbish, not kept separate as I imagined it would be.
When I inquired why this happens, a young lady at the council offices told me that my council tax covered only collection, not recycling.
Does this really make sense to charge 50p for a plastic bag - which would cost only pence to buy from a shop - when nothing happens to the garden waste anyway?
