The Anglo-Saxon Week is part of the historically themed Ollie the Ox's Childrens Club, a museum club for 5-12 year olds that provides regular newsletters as well as special events and competitions.

Maureen Christian, executive member for culture, events and tourism, said: "This week offers a great opportunity for children to have lots of fun at the same time as learning about life in Anglo Saxon times.

"There is a choice of hands on activity workshops to entertain the children and make learning interesting."

Workshops include:

*Tuesday August 10: Saxon Style -- paint a tunic and make jewellery worn by rich men and women

*Wednesday August 11: Weaving Magic -- try out some traditional techniques and make an Anglo-Saxon strap to take home

*Thursday August 12: Stories from the Grave -- find out about Anglo-Saxon pottery and make a decorated pot.

Ollie the Ox's Children's Club is free to join, and workshops cost between £2.50- £3 per person.

Other themed weeks for this summer are Terrific Tudors and Modern Times including making Tudor Toys, William Morris Printing and Felt Making.
