Gardeners overcame the challenges posed by the wet summer by exhibiting a first-class display of produce to help celebrate a gardening show's half-century.

Horticulturists from North Leigh, near Witney, showed off prize-winning flowers, fruit and vegetables to mark the 50th anniversary of the North Leigh Gardening Society's annual show.

Among those inspecting the produce at North Leigh Memorial Hall on Saturday was Witney MP David Cameron.

Show secretary John Dawson said: "It all went very well and, considering the season, the entries were excellent. We had a very heavy rain storm on Friday which we thought might have put paid to it. But people rallied round."

Among those carrying off trophies were Sue Kusick, who won four cups for flowers and David Gooday who won best exhibit in show for a tray of produce.
