Teenager Craig Claridge, injured after being shot in the back, is continuing to recover at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital.

The 13-year-old was attacked outside Edinburgh Drive, Didcot, just after 10.30pm on Thursday night.

He is in a stable condition following surgery to his hip.

His father David, of Dirac Place, Didcot, said: "Craig sat up in bed and told me he wants to come out of hospital because school starts soon. That must be a good sign."

Mr Claridge said his son, a pupil at Didcot's St Birinus Boys School, underwent a second operation yesterday (August 22).

He added: "We just want him back home so that things can get back to normal.

"Craig has had his second operation and seems to have come through it well. Physically he is expected to make a good recovery.

"He loves ice-skating and often goes to the rink in Oxford.

"He is looking forward to getting his skates on again."

Mr Claridge and his wife Deborah have been making regular trips to visit Craig in hospital.

On Saturday at Oxford Magistrates' Court, two men were remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the shooting.

Simon Roberts, 18, and David Johnson, 20, are charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Johnson, of no fixed abode, is also charged with being in possession of a firearm enabling another person to endanger life.

Roberts, of Banwell Avenue, Swindon, is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The pair, both labourers, were remanded in custody. They are due to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Friday.
