Oxfordshire rower Frances Houghton, from Wheatley, helped Great Britain to a silver medal in the women's quadruple sculls.
The 23-year-old Houghton, Alison Mowbray, Debbie Flood, and Rebecca Romero finished behind Germany, who have been Olympic champions since the sport first entered the Games in Seoul 16 years ago.
The haul of a gold, two silvers and a bronze is Britain's best performance since 1928.
GB performance director David Tanner said: "Today's superb silver adds the icing on the cake of an exceptional regatta for GB rowing."
Houghton was not as ecstatic with silver as her teammates afterwards.
She said: "I knew what I wanted and it didn't quite come off. But maybe if we hadn't aimed for that we wouldn't have landed where we are.
"I still think we can beat the Germans though."
