The Oxford United youth team players involved in the "Julian Alsop episode" have been disciplined by the club - but have kept their jobs.

Northern Ireland Under 18 defenders, twins James and Richard Tweed, and striker Craig Davies, have been fined and given written warnings by the club.

James Tweed was fined two weeks' wages and given a final written warning, while brother Richard was handed a written warning and fined one week's wages.

Weekly wages for a 'scholar' - as they are called - are around £90.

Davies, who joined Oxford United after having some disciplinary problems at his previous club Manchester City, has already played for United's first team this season, coming on as a substitute at Notts County and in the LDV Vans Trophy against Exeter.

Alsop was sacked last week after Oxford United launched an investigation into a lewd prank with a banana in the dressing rooms at the Kassam Stadium.

The 31-year-old striker subsequently joined Coca-Cola League Two rivals Northampton Town.

United secretary Mick Brown said last night: "The club have now been through all the disciplinary and grievance issues that have arisen out of the Julian Alsop matter.

"Disciplinary procedures have been followed and some action has been taken."

Brown would not reveal what that action is, but stated no other players have been dismissed or suspended.

However, sources have confirmed that the youth team trio were fined and received warnings about their future conduct.

Brown said: "So far as we are concerned the matter is now closed. We want to draw a line under the incident.

"It has been a little bit difficult these last few weeks concentrating on playing football matches, which, after all, is what we're all about."

Alsop could, in theory, come up against his former Oxford United teammates when the U's travel to Sixfields to play Northampton Town Res in a Pontin's Holidays Combination match today.

However, the Cobblers may feel it would be "politically correct" to keep him out of this game.

Alsop came on during the second half of Northampton's League Two win over Rochdale on Saturday.

With Simon Cox stepping up to first-team duties, Bradie Clarke will be in United's goal.
