Thame Utd 2, Bracknell Tn 0: Two contrasting goals from the effervescent Jon Gardner gave Thame a hard-earned victory against a determined Bracknell side in Division 1 West.

His first score, in the 12th minute, was a close-range finish after Gavin Lane had headed a corner into his path.

The second, to clinch the game, six minutes from time, was an opportunist effort from 25 yards after the striker had spotted opposing keeper Andrew Poyser off his line.

In the intervening period, there had been much for the neutral to enjoy.

Both sides created chances with Poyser and Steve Smith, the Thame keeper, frequently called into action.

John Mitchell had a goal disallowed for Thame and Bracknell's Ian Dickens did well to clear off his own line.

At the other end, Abingdon referee Steve Phipps, who had a fine game, rejected the visitors' claim for hand-ball against Thame's Mark Avery.

By the end, Thame had probably done enough to justify the three points, but on this performance Bracknell will surely extricate themselves from the drop zone.
