Oxford City duo Brian Green and Richard Grant made the most of their England call-ups as they shone on a dismal November day at the British and Irish Masters International, held at Lloyd Park, Croydon on Saturday.

Green and Grant were rewarded with their England vests following a string of impressive performances during the season, and they did not disappoint over a muddy and slippery eight kilometre course.

Green led the way home, finishing 11th in the Vet 45 category in a time of 29mins 42secs, while in the Vet 50 category, Grant clocked 31.06 to finish ninth.

Each country had a team of six runners, which meant that there were 30 runners in each age group, so the duo had good cause to be pleased with their individual displays.

Both Green and Grant were part of the winning England teams in their age group.

John Exley joined his City teammates at Croydon, running in the open race, following the main international, finishing in a time of 31.42.

There were also impressive runs from former City athletes Clive Bromhall and Nigel Gates.

Bromhall, who now lives in Bristol, finished second in the Vet 40 category, while Gates, from Brighton, was third overall and first in the Vet 50 age group in 27.57.
