Oxford City 1, Rothwell Tn 2: Oxford City bowed out of the Southern League Cup when two defensive errors led to their defeat by Rothwell in last night's second-round tie at Court Place Farm.
In a quiet start, City striker Mark Simms tested Rothwell's keeper John Hughes with a long-range shot.
The visitors, who are second in Division 1 West, went ahead in the 37th minute when Jonathan Mitchell took advantage of slack marking to shoot past City keeper Lee Farrow.
Rothwell doubled their lead in th 68th minute through the unmarked Steve Towers.
Four minutes later, City hit back with a well-worked goal.
New signing Ronnie Joe played a neat ball through to substitute Garath McCleary, who rifled home from the edge of the penalty area. City pressed for an equaliser, and Hughes did well to deny Andy Ballard in the closing minutes.
Oxford City: Farrow, Durrant, Harper, Antnowicz, Perkins, Takriti (Jones 47), Doyle, Ballard, Joe, Simms (McCleary 61), Smillie. Sub not used: Lee.
