The parents of a teenager killed in a motorcycle crash in Oxford have appealed for the mystery person who stayed with their son to come forward.

Linda and Arthur Allen, whose 16-year-old son David died after a motorcycle accident

Linda and Arthur Allen want to thank the person who stayed with David until the ambulance arrived, following the accident in Long Lane, Littlemore, on Saturday evening.

Sixteen-year-old David, known as Little Bill to his friends, died after his motorcycle hit a barrier at 11pm.

It has been revealed that paramedics called to the scene took the unusual step of asking police to drive the ambulance so that they could continue trying to save the former Peers School pupil.

Despite paramedics and doctors going "beyond the call of duty", David died in the early hours of Sunday.

Oxfordshire Ambulance Service spokesman Helen Robinson said: "David was extremely seriously injured and the paramedics knew they needed to get him to hospital immediately.

"So that both paramedics could work on him, a policeman was asked to drive the ambulance. This is not something we do on a regular basis. "Because David was only 16 we did everything we possibly could to save him. The paramedics and doctors went beyond the call of duty to try to get him back. They never stopped trying to save his life from the moment they saw him."

David was wearing a helmet and protective clothing when the accident happened. He had been involved in a minor bike accident earlier in the year, but this had not deterred him from riding again.

The trainee bricklayer has been described by his parents as a "free spirit".

Since their son's accident, Mr and Mrs Allen, of Spencer Crescent, Rose Hill, have been told someone stayed with their son until the paramedics arrived - and they are now desperate to discover who that person was.

Mrs Allen, 51, said: "We want to say thank you to whoever it was. We don't know whether it was a man or woman, young or old, but we would like them to come forward."

Mr Allen, a 42-year-old bus driver, added: "I'm just sorry I wasn't with my son."
