A wall in a secluded Oxford alley is to be lowered in a bid to protect people from muggers.
In June, an 87-year-old woman was robbed in the alley between Bury Knowle Park and Somerfield Supermarket in London Road, Headington. It highlighted the need for the wall, along the side of the Oxford City Council car park, to be reduced to make the alley safer.
City councillor David Rundle, pictured with fellow councillor Stephen Tall, said: "This has been an issue for residents for a while and we have been concerned to do something about it."
Oxford Community Safety Partnership has given £3,000 and another £2,000 is to be provided by the city council's north east area committee. The work should start in the next couple of months.
Sgt Henry Parsons said: "There were a couple of people using that alleyway as a getaway, but they have been caught and dealt with."
