The Oxford Mail's new mascot, Osney, has been delivering more than just your daily paper.

Peter and Barbie Thomas, from Abingdon, with Osney and paper boy Daniel Mercer

The spiky, blue-haired character has been giving out £50 cash prizes to the first people who open their doors when Osney calls round with our paper boys and girls.

Peter and Barbie Thomas, of Ramson Way, Abingdon, were some of the first people to collect the cash.

Mrs Thomas said: "I was very surprised to see your giant mascot at the door, but was more than chuffed with the £50, which I've already spent."

On Monday (Nov 22), it was the turn of Wantage reader Ted Case to receive £50, when Osney joined paper boy Curtis Hart on his round.

Osney will be doing the rounds with Oxford Mail paper boys and girls until Christmas and will begin knocking on doors again in the new year.

Keep an eye out for notices in the paper telling you when he will be visiting your area to hand out more money to lucky readers.
