Milton United have appointed Gary Ackling as their new manager - but former boss Keith Stopps has slammed the Premier Division outfit for his dismissal.

Stopps was sacked by Milton chairman Ken Tull on Monday, and is disappointed at the way his departure was handled.

"The chairman didn't have the courage to meet me in person," Stopps said.

"He just rang me up, and the first words he said were 'Keith, I'm looking for a new manager'.

"My biggest heartache was that only two weeks ago, Ken was worried I was going to quit - then two weeks later, he sacks me without any warning."

Tull was unavailable for comment, but press officer Noel Hartley said: "This was a decision made solely by the chairman.

"He always said we would look at results after 15 matches, and when the team under-performed again at Sandhurst in the FA Vase, that was the final straw."

Milton travel to Ardley United in the first round of the League Cup tomorrow, with Martin Hall out and Tony Bott doubtful for the home side.

Wantage Town skipper Richard Bourne (ankle) remains sidelined as his side travel to Adderbury Park.

New signings Danny Allen, CJ O'Connell and Paul Day will all play some part in the game, but new signing Matty Allen is cup-tied.

John Carey and Michael Duerden (ankle ligaments) are both ruled out for Carterton's home match against Fairford Town.

However, Paul Sherwood should return after missing the midweek win at the same club.

Michaes Herbert is the only doubt for Abingdon United's trip to Hungerford Town.

Clanfield will be without injured duo Stephen Williams and Davie Hamill and the suspended Steve Wright for their trip to Trowbridge Town.

Headington Amateurs have a number of injury problems ahead of their Division 1 West clash at home to Winterbourne.

KIDLINGTON try again in their Oxfordshire Senior Cup first-round tie, after last week's match against Berinsfield was abandoned in extra time due to bad light.
