OXFORD United's Argentinian management want to bring in experience and organisation to help the team climb up the League Two table.

But new manager Ramon Diaz declared himself very happy with Saturday's 2-1 victory over Cambridge after his spectacular gamble with youth paid off.

Diaz and head coach Horacio Fernandez gave debuts to 18-year-old striker Craig Davies and fellow teenager Bradie Clarke in goal.

And Davies had a stunning first senior start, scoring once and destroying Cambridge with his pace as the U's raced into a two-goal half-time lead before Cambridge pulled one back near the end.

"I am very happy because we have made a good start, but we have a lot of hard work ahead of us," Diaz said, speaking through a translator.

"The first half was very good. Now we have to do that over 90 minutes.

"The spirit of all the team was good. The young No 30, Craig Davies, did very well, but I was pleased also for the goalkeeper because he is very young too.

"I like to give a chance to young players when I can, and I understand there are some very good young players at this club." Regular keeper Chris Tardif had a groin injury, but was named as a substitute.

Former Manchester City trainee Davies, who had done well as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 victory at Chester, was thrown on up front alongside Tommy Mooney with Lee Bradbury dropped back into midfield.

Mooney got United's first goal - his sixth of the season - from a superb cross by Chris Hackett who, like Davies, had a blinder.

Diaz said: "I am very happy for everybody and for the people of Oxford. There was a lot of pressure.

"I want to bring in experience and organisation, but I am very happy to get a win because we only had one day to work with the players.

"We have one whole week ahead of us now before the next match. We have to do more on our strategy."
