Women's South Clubs' League: Oxford Hawks ran out 2-0 winners in their eagerly-awaited Division 2 derby against West Witney.

Kelly Fogden scored the goals in a scrappy affair in which both sides had early chances.

Hawks' defence held out strongly, Wendy Gundry more than filling the shoes of the absent Clare Halligan at centre back.

The strong Hawks support had something to cheer just before half-time.

A superb early ball out of defence from Gundry found the in-form Emma Batten, who ran the length of the pitch past two Witney defenders before playing a perfectly-weighted through ball to Fogden.

Fogden's deft touch took the ball around a stranded Anna Kropelnicki in the Witney goal, to give the home side the lead.

Hawks came out a more organised outfit in the second half, with Kathryn Spencer and Hannah Williamson supplying some excellent balls to Batten and Fogden up front.

The second goal came from a long corner, Henri Coles running along the baseline before supplying the perfect ball for the onrushing Fogden to slam home her second.

Tireless running from Williamson proved crucial as she dominated the midfield.

This, combined with a solid defence, meant that Witney couldn't get near the Hawks goal and left goalkeeper Charlotte Monk with little to do.

In Division 1, Rover Oxford maintained their winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Havant at Iffley Road.

Missing key players, Rover started slowly, but in the 13th minute, they won a free hit on the edge of the Havant circle and the ball was driven in hard to find Vicky Mankelow who finished brilliantly.

Havant went close on a number of occasions but were denied by Caroline McCulloch in goal.

In the second half, Havant equalised from a well-struck short corner in the 47th minute.

Rover were stung into action and regained the lead when Mankelow slipped the ball to Lyn Cockshott, who made no mistake to score.

Havant then countered and only some great defending kept them out, in particular from Jenny Johnson.

The following day, Rover played their rearranged game at Epsom and were beaten 3-1.

And with three of the top four winning, they remain in fourth place.
