Oxford United striker Danny Morgan and goalkeeper Simon Cox were today donning Velcro suits and being strapped to a pole on a 50ft by 30ft inflatable pitch to play human table football.

The tournament, at Oxpens Road, has been organised by Oxford solicitors firm Marshall and Galpin in aid of Headway, which provides support for people with a brain injury, their families and carers.

The U's team was taking part in the charity match on behalf of Homestart Oxford. The charity, based in Blackbird Leys Community Centre, offers help, friendship and practical advice to families with young children.

Lyn Evans, Homestart senior coordinator, said: "We asked them if they wanted to take part in a fun event for charity and they said yes. We shall be cheering on from the sidelines with banners."

Mrs Evans said the match would be hilarious to watch as players could only move from side to side along the poles.

Peter Rhoades-Brown, the club's community officer, who organised the U's team for Homestart, said: "I will be playing, so will my assistant Rachael Mullard, and another person. This is a good cause and you never know when you are going to need this sort of help. The players are really keen to help out."
