I refer to the article, Moped joyriders face clampdown (Oxford Mail, March 8).

Last summer, three youths were caught in the act of trying to steal my daughter's moped in Headington, Oxford.

The police were called. These youths tried to steal the moped, but they could not chop through the security chain.

Because of this, they smashed the panels of the bike and kicked it off the stand.

The police arrived in three cars and one riot van and questioned the three youths.

They discovered a chopper/axe in the undergrowth next to my daughter's moped which they admitted they used to try and chop off the chain.

One youth admitted the damage to the moped which the insurance company assessed at £937.

This happened in July 2004. Guess what? We received a letter last Monday in which Thames Valley Police said:

"Criminal damage to moped. I am writing to inform you that the police investigation into the above matter has now been concluded. A young person, having admitting involvement in the above offence, has been given a final warning. The decision to take this action was made after careful consideration of available evidence, the surrounding circumstances and guidelines issued by the Home Office."

After reading your article, you can see why I felt it necessary to write to you.

Where is the police justice in Great Britain today?
