Southern Counties North: Witney enhanced their chances of securing the promotion play-off position with a tight 11-8 victory away to fellow contenders Grove at Cane Lane.

In a tight encounter, there was just a penalty for each side during the first half, Ollie Smith scoring Witney's three points.

A well-worked try by Grove, following a Witney kick that failed to find touch, gave the home side the initiative.

But a Will Worrall try, plus a second penalty from Smith, saw Witney take the spoils in front of a large, but

frustrated Wantage crowd.

Hosts Bicester were totally outplayed by an altogether slicker and more cohesive Buckingham side, who won 52-17 in a one-sided derby.

The game was well and truly over as a contest by half-time, after a series of fundamental unforced errors by the home side had gifted the visitors five tries.

It was surely the most inept display Bicester have staged for many years.

In the second half, Bicester staged a mini recovery, scoring three tries, but it was all too little and too late

Their first score came when lock Christian Wright put No 8 Martin Linstrom across on the right for a try which Stephen Risbridger converted from close to the touchline.

Immediately, Linstrom sent replacement prop Rob Thurlow charging down the centre and Dan Spencer then combined with flanker Tony Nightingale to put winger Paul Leverton over for an unconverted try, wide out on the right.

Linstrom then took a spectacular catch at the tail of the line-out, before scampering over for his second try, to the right of the posts.

Risbridger failed with his conversion kick, and Buckingham completed the scoring, with their sixth try.
