Henk Giele, the surgeon struck off by the General Medical Council, is the kindest, most honest and decent man anyone could hope to meet.

If he has committed any crime, it is to have been nave and too kind.

Other consultants I know are familiar enough with the way the law works in this land that they would not let a patient into their houses (or even speak to a patient outside the consulting room, and with a nurse present, in some cases).

How sad is that?

I wish him the best of luck with his appeal and hope he will still be practising if ever I have need of the best in his field of reconstructive surgery.
