Wartime fighter pilot Tony "Binxie" Binks came to the end of the runway and died aged 89.
His wife Vivienne said in a newspaper obituary notice: "He decided, having reached the end of the runway, to take off on April 8."
The former pub landlord died in the bar of the Six Bells in Warborough. A small memorial has since been placed on the bar by landlord Ben Salter.
It states: "He baled out in the Six Bells, his second home."
Wing Commander Binks, who lived in Warborough, served in the RAF for more than 20 years and was awarded the DFC -- the Distinguished Flying Cross
During his time in the RAF he flew Beaufighters and then formed 618 Squadron of Mosquitos.
He was a well-known figure in the area as landlord of the Chicken In The Basket pub, in Benson, in the 1970s.
He is survived by his wife and six children.
