GLS Hellenic League - Fairford Tn 0, Didcot Tn 2: Didcot Town have paid the ultimate price for fielding two ineligible players earlier this season - with the point they were deducted costing them the Premier Division championship and automatic promotion.

It was back in August that the Railwaymen slipped up by fielding Rodney Dorrian and Immanuelle Wango at Tuffley Rovers when they weren't signed on.

And, after they won at Fairford on Saturday, eight months on that administrative error returned to haunt them in the cruellest way possible as they missed out on the title by a point to Highworth Town - who they would have otherwise pipped for the championship on goal difference.

However, Didcot may get a reprieve in the promotion race as champions Highworth's ground doesn't meet the required grading to step up into the Southern League - and so the Railwaymen could still go up.

Didcot, chasing a famous double after reaching the FA Vase final, went into Saturday's game needing to win and hoping Highworth slipped up at Wootton Bassett.

But although Stuart Peace's side defeated Fairford, Highworth also won to be crowned champions.

Didcot's first-half pressure paid off in the 43rd minute, Andy Parrott knocking down Matty Jack's cross for Ian Concannon to fire home from two yards at the far post.

Graham Edney hit a post for Didcot in the second half, before Fairford were awarded a penalty in the 68th minute after Grant Goodall brought down Dave Toomey.

But Didcot were let off as Toomey fired his spot-kick wide.

Didcot clinched victory on the stroke of full-time when Parrott thumped home their second goal to give them their highest finish in the league in more than 50 years.

Carterton 1, Chipping Norton Tn 2: A double from the impressive Joe Tustain gave Chipping Norton a well-deserved victory over west Oxfordshire rivals Carterton.

Tustain struck for the first time after nine minutes, heading home a right-wing cross from man-of-the-match Jamie Clarke.

And he was on target again in the 18th minute, smashing a shot past Nick Heritage after Jamie Clarke's headed Tim Jenkins's centre into his path.

Carterton got back into the match in the 31st minute when Kevin Lewis's shot looped over Chris Brain, but that was the end of the scoring.

North Leigh 0, Almondsbury Town 1: North Leigh ended the season on a low note with a home defeat by Almondsbury Town.

Nathan Lumber's penalty for the visitors on the half-hour was enough to separate the two sides.

Wantage Tn 0, Ardley Utd 0: Wantage were unable to break down an understrength Ardley side, who rested seven players ahead of today's Supplementary Cup final against Hungerford Town at Clanfield (1pm).

But at the same time they kept their 16th clean sheet of the season to ensure the game finished goalless.

Ardley keeper Paul Tassell made two fine saves inside five minutes from Adam Giles in the second half to keep a clean sheet.

Milton Utd 0, Tuffley Rovers 0: Milton United battled out a goalless draw with Tuffley Rovers to end the season with an eight-match unbeaten run.
