Oxford City boss Andy Sinnott says the club will bounce back after they were relegated from Southern League Division 1 West as a result of a 3-1 home defeat by high-flying Clevedon on Saturday.

Had City won, they would have stayed up, as Bracknell - the only other candidates for the drop - lost 4-3 at Sutton Coldfield.

"I feel numb," said Sinnott. "It rounds off an awful fortnight.

"The death of Robin Antonowicz (the 23-year-old City defender who died after a car crash) really puts football in perspective.

"It's not nice to be relegated, but when it happened before (at Thame United), I bounced back.

"I'm more than happy to stay here, and the indications I have got are that I will be given that opportunity.

"I'm not going to run away from my responsibilities. I'm responsible for us being where we are now.

"It's not just Saturday's game, it's been our form over the season that has cost us."

City are likely to be into the Hellenic, Ryman, Combined Counties or the Wessex League.

Chairman Brian Cox said the committee would be meeting later this week to discuss the options.

"It's a shame, but a record of seven home league wins in the past two seasons isn't good enough," he said.

"I can't explain it. Away from home we don't have a problem."

Cox added: "We'll bounce back, don't worry about that.

"Off the field we have never been stronger.

"We have a large number of colts, ladies and girls' teams, and several more to join next season. And we're setting up a youth academy shortly."
