Littlemore Pierced at Will

Kidlington finished their league program on a high after a hard fought win over a resilient Littlemore team on Saturday. Two defenders caught the eye, with Pierce Giles giving an outstanding performance at left back in the first game, and Will Baker in superlative form at right back in the second. Giles made a number of good tackles and clearances, whilst Baker saved the visitors a number of times with his firm but fair tackling. Both later showed their versatility scoring a goal apiece in the friendly game which followed the main matches.

In the first game, a Giles clearance found hard-working midfielder Ethan Couling on the left wing, who picked out Kidlington's leading scorer Luca Sykes. His typically confident finish put Kidlington one goal up at half time. The second goal came from a brilliant Ethan Couling corner which was deflected into the net by an unfortunate home player. Kidlington's defence held firm with support when required from the midfield, and Littlemore had few clear cut chances, the first game finishing 2-0.

Kidlington also won the second game 2-0. Inspirational skipper Ben Stewart scored the first from an excellent long range free kick which went in despite a deflection. The second arrived late on when a quickly taken Stewart throw found Marcus Tranter, whose first time pass found Callum Rolfe who finished expertly to complete the scoring. The away defence again played well, with excellent support from the midfield, to deny Littlemore clear-cut shooting opportunities, and the times they were breached, keeper Joe Keighery saved well to keep his fifth clean sheet in six games in goal.

Littlemore had plenty of the ball in two well-contested games but were unable to breach Kidlington's back line.
