CONSULTATION is continuing on Cherwell’s plans for thousands of new homes across the district.

In Banbury 1,200 homes have been allocated to the Canalside redevelopment, and 400 houses each at Bretch Hill and and Bankside.

Permission has been granted for 1,070 homes at Bankside, and land in the area has also been allocated as Banbury United Football Club’s new home.

Two reserve areas have been allocated for housing – north of Hanwell Fields, 400 homes, and west of Warwick Road, another 400 homes.

Bicester is taking most of the new housing with 3,000 new homes up to 2026.

The proposals were approved last month and consultation will continue until April 19.

A final decision is expected this summer, and the plan then goes to a public inquiry.

Under the South East Plan, Cherwell must build a total of 13,400 new homes between 2006 and 2026. So far, 4,536 have been built in Banbury and surrounding area or have planning permission.

Overall, 60 per cent of green fields across the district will be used for housing, and 20 villages across Cherwell are earmarked for development.
