THESE are the smart men who formed the Home Guard unit at Morris Motors at Cowley, Oxford, during the Second World War.

The first picture shows the men of C Platoon, while in the other the officers and NCOs are seen with Lord Nuffield, formerly William Morris, the mastermind of car production at Cowley.

The pictures come from Myrtle Salmon, of Eaton Road, Appleton, whose stepfather, John Brendel, was a member of the platoon in the early 1940s.

He spent most of his working life at the factory, helping to make cars in peacetime and repairing damaged Royal Air Force aircraft during wartime.

A note below the picture of the platoon indicates that it was taken at a farewell parade held in 1944.
