POLICE today launched a series of drugs raids following a spate of robberies.

Officers with search warrants raided six properties in Didcot, Wallingford and Berinsfield for ‘Operation Momentum’.

The month-long initiative followed a series of armed robberies at shops including Blockbuster, Coral bookmakers, and MGJ Jewellers in St Martin’s Street.

Police believe the culprits are local and could be raiding homes and businesses to feed drugs habits.

Officers made three arrests from the first three raids. At 9.30am a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin at a terraced house in Dirac Place, Didcot. Police are pictured going into the building.

In Brendon Close, Didcot, a 22-year-old man was arrested for possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, after police found suspected cannabis resin with an estimated street value of £250.

In a property in Blue Mountains, off Wantage Road, Wallingford, police seized £1,200 in cash under the Proceeds Of Crime Act.

A woman in her forties was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug.

Sgt Fraser Weller said: “We are taking this extremely seriously – it is going to have an impact.”
