BIKES have been getting a makeover similar to that of television programme Pimp My Ride.

Youngsters took their two-wheelers to Base 33, in Welch Way, Witney, where professional mechanics and designers were on hand to give the bikes a new look.

The Pimp My Bike project was run by Cottsway Housing, Base 33, Oxfordshire Youth Arts Partnership, Witney Youth Centre, A2Dominion and West Oxfordshire District Council.

Sam Biddle, Cottsway’s community development worker, said: “This has not been done in this area before. We hope we can deliver similar projects in the future.”

Bike mechanic Sim Beardall-Richards, pictured with Steve Edwards 17, Keon Berry, 10, and Lewis Pizzey 12, showed young people how to dissemble their cycles, sand them down and put them back together.

They then picked the colours and designs to make their bike look individual.

Police Community Support Officers also visited the youth centre to talk about the importance of bike safety, as well as security tagging machines.
