THE Dean of an Oxford University college has denied allegations of a drug culture amongst his students.

Christopher Lewis, the Dean of Christ Church, spoke out after college administrators received an anonymous letter claiming class A drugs were being supplied at the college.

After receiving the letter, Ian Watson, the college censor in charge of discipline, sent an email to 426 students reminding them that drugs were illegal.

It is understood Mr Watson contacted Thames Valley Police regarding the anonymous allegations, but the force decided not to take any action.

Mr Lewis said: “We had an anonymous letter which contained an allegation about drug taking among the students.

“There was no evidence that the letter referred to anything that was correct. It was just an allegation about drug taking in general. We contacted the police and they said it would be good for us to to reiterate our policy on drugs.

“We have no evidence that there is a considerable drugs culture at Christ Church.”

Mr Watson’s email is understood to have warned students that anyone caught using drugs would face prosecution and possible expulsion from Oxford.

Ruth Collier, a spokesman for Oxford University, said: “The university and the colleges take illegal drug use very seriously.”
