I CAN'T believe the council is considering spending stacks of cash on another boring run-of-the mill swimming pool.

I drive 30 miles to Swindon so that my son and his friend can enjoy a day out at a swimming complex he actually enjoys.

It’s called The Oasis centre and, over the years, I have been using this excellent facility – with its chutes, slides, wavepool and watercannon.

The new Blackbird Leys swimming pool is going to be situated right in the middle of a massive estate – home to many children who, take it from me, do not want an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Come on Oxford City Council: you had an opportunity to build a pool with chutes many years ago when Temple Cowley was renovated, but chose not to.

Do not let this opportunity pass a second time.

The council bangs on about not having any money, but can’t seem to see that a facility like this, if planned properly, would be a goldmine – attracting families from far and wide.

I call on the councillors to go and visit places like The Oasis and see what a place like this could do for the city and its finances.

I won’t hold my breath as I can see why the idea for this silly Olympic pool is being touted.

I imagine it’s all to do with the upcoming games, and we’re trying to get a piece of the action and the cash being dished out.

It has got got nothing to do with what the people of Oxford want.

I call on all parents in the area to give the council your views.

I’m absolutely sick of having to travel to more forward-looking places to spend my money.
