ANYONE in need of inspiration should read the interview that courageous young soldier Tom Neathway has given to this newspaper today.

Corporal Neathway, who aspired to be an SAS soldier, was literally cut down in his prime in 2008 when a bomb hidden under a sandbag blew off his legs and arm in Afghanistan.

His injuries were so severe he was not expected to live.

But equipped with two prosthetic legs, the Parachute Regiment soldier is today back at work and, remarkably, dreaming about life again on the frontline.

You might expect someone who has gone through the unimaginable horror of losing three limbs to be slightly bitter about life. Not a bit of it.

Cpl Neathway’s motto is that life is for living – and he intends to do just that. He has a pair of specially-made limbs for running, has completed several tandem sky dives and is even planning a skiing holiday next month.

Soldiers are made of tough stuff, but Cpl Neathway’s humility and good humour are a lesson to us all.
