The snow hitting Oxfordshire will continue until about midday before turning to sleet and rain, Met Office forecasters said today.

Two to six centimetres of snow hit the region overnight and more sleet and snow could be on its way tomorrow.

But John Hammond, a spokesman for the Met Office, said the weather picture for Oxfordshire would be “wet rather than white” for the rest of the week.

He added: “It could freeze tonight so there could be ice on the roads tomorrow morning.

“But temperatures will increase throughout the week, rising to 6C during the day and there could be heavy rain on Wednesday — it’s likely to be a pretty soggy week.”
