PEOPLE can discover Oxford’s hidden gems at a tourism exhibition taking place this week.

The Discover Oxford and Oxfordshire Fair takes place at Oxford Town Hall, in St Aldate’s, on Thursday, from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Entry is free.

The event is aimed at people living or working in the area who may not know about the county’s stately homes, museums and guided tour operators.

Cycling, walking, boating, theatre and dance opportunities will also be discussed.

The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Mary Clarkson, will officially open the Oxford City Council-organised event.

Visitors will be able to take a free guided tour of the Town Hall, listen to ghost stories, and handle items from the Museum of Oxford, which is housed in the town hall building.

They can also take part in ‘taster’ walking tours and narrow boat trips and talk to retailers, hospitality and entertainment providers.

Exhibitors, including Blenheim Palace, Cotswold Wildlife Park, Didcot Railway Centre, Upton House and Oxfordshire Narrow Boats, will be on hand to promote their organisations.

City council spokesman Louisa Dean said: “There will be a free prize draw with a wide variety of prizes including dinner for two at the Randolph Hotel, Sunday lunch and complimentary entry to Blenheim Palace for two, tickets for attractions, river trips, concerts and the theatre, Sunday lunch for four at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars hotel and a hamper of local goodies.

“Visitors will also receive a 10 per cent off voucher for purchases in the Gallery café in the Town Hall for that day.”
