THIS was a sad day for these pupils – their school was closing.
The picture was taken at the entrance to Iffley School, in Oxford, in 1961, when the village school closed down.
As we recalled (Memory Lane, January 18), the school had served the village since 1838. The opening of a new primary school on the neighbouring Rose Hill estate sounded its death knell.
The picture was sent in by Kathleen Cullen, of Lenthall Road, Rose Hill, whose children attended Iffley School.
