HERE are two more pictures from the archives of Stewart Jacobs, one of Oxfordshire’s leading football administrators.
The picture above shows one of the early Headington United teams. The only player we can identify is Bill Jones, second from the right in the front.
Judging by the number of spectators in the background, it was clearly an important match.
The cloth caps many of them are wearing – and the players’ baggy shorts – may be clues to the date the picture was taken.
It was clearly many years before Headington United became Oxford United.
The other picture shows Headington cricketers with one of the many trophies they won over the years.
Mr Jacobs, seen in the suit in the back row on the right, was secretary of both the football and cricket teams, before becoming secretary of the Oxfordshire Football Association, a post he held for nearly 40 years.
