Sir – The Warneford Hospital wishes to get permission to demolish a building a few decades old and rebuild on a cricket pitch which has been in constant use for 100 years. Who thinks this is a good idea? People at the planning department are recommending this to the area planning committee. Why?

Surely the best solution is to refurbish the existing building. This gets the facility quickly back into use, saves public money and importantly saves the cricket pitch.
