A BENSON mum has launched a campaign to get a crossing built on the busy B4009.

Every day, dozens of parents walk their children across the road on the way to Benson Primary School.

Parents say the road is becoming increasingly dangerous.

Now Jo Grundonner, whose daughter Katie, eight, goes to the 225-pupil school, has rallied fellow parents in calling for a crossing, lollipop lady or other traffic calming to make their route to school safer.

The 38-year-old said: “At whatever point you try to cross, there is a danger of being run over. I have myself many times had to run while halfway across so to avoid being hit. Its just a matter of time before someone gets hurt.”

Parish councillor Dave Rushton said: “We’ve always tried to get a crossing here, and we’re looking now at the best way to slow the traffic.”

County council spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “Officers are in constant touch with the parish council to see what might be possible and are continuing to try and find a suitable site for a crossing.”
