OLYMPIC triple jumper Julian Golley visited Didcot Girls School today to tell them about his life in elite sport.

The athlete, who competed in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and won a gold medal in the 1994 Commonwealth Games, described his background, early years in sport, and passed on his secrets for success.

Pupil Jessica Cooke, 13, who is on the school’s talent programme for netball, said: “He told us how he had tried out lots of different sports when he was younger, and how we should try new things.

“I would quite like to try the triple jump now.”

Deputy head of PE Caroline Hough said: “Julian won his first medal at just nine years old, and then he was doing gymnastics and football as well as athletics.

“The girls really enjoyed his visit. A lot of them got his autograph afterwards.”
