YES I knew it. I was right. Gordon Brown and Labour have finally flipped their wobbly lids.
I am referring to Mr Brown’s boast that he is the ‘party of middle class’.
Shouldn’t he have said the working class?
Surely ‘Labour’ means to work, toil and graft?
He went on to say everyone should be able to buy a bigger house or go on foreign holidays and millions of middle class jobs must be created. This is to shatter the idea Labour will rely on a core-vote strategy in the coming election. He said he wants a fair society and all can fulfil their dreams.
Would that fair society include the working class pensioners? Was my recent increase fair? It was unbelievably insulting, £4.20.
So what would one have to earn to become middle class?
At a guess, I would think about £35,000 a year.
So what group of workers will receive this middle class accolade? Supermarket checkout staff, all shop staff, traffic wardens, postal workers, bus drivers, bar staff, restaurant workers? The list is endless.
Would the cost of living be even more out of reach to all who remain working class?
There will always be working class pensioners. Will we be part of this deal? Not a chance.
So how do I become a middle class pensioner?
Guess I will have to take a fast-track Member of Parliament course and negotiate my own tax-free, index-linked pension. Yep, that sounds about right.
