WHEN I read the letter from P Howard (Oxford Mail, January 26), I wondered what planet he was from.

Then I realised he must have thought us readers were from another planet.

In his second paragraph he says we are being led by Gordon Brown who is “Honest with us, the voters”.

May I remind him of the last election when the then Prime Minister promised, that if returned, he would serve a full term. Well, we all know he did not.

Most importantly, in their manifesto Labour promised that the electorate would be given a referendum on the European Constitution. This was not just a promise but a solemn pledge.

This was later promised by Gordon Brown before he took over from Blair.

We did not get one.

A politician and political party could not be more dishonest than that.

He also has the gall to write that whenever the Labour Party takes over from the Conservatives, it has to clear up a massive debt.

I think he should go back to school and read about the mess the Tories inherited from Labour in the 50s and late 70s. I should also point out to him that in 1997, when Labour took office, it inherited the best economy any incoming government had ever had – not a massive debt as he wrote.
