A DISABLED woman has pleaded with thieves to return her wheelchair.

Mother-of-three Lisa Dunn, from Cowley, has had her manually operated chair stolen from outside her house in Church Hill Road, along with her youngest child’s pushchair.

Mrs Dunn, 37, suffers from a rare tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which has left her unable to walk without the aid of crutches.

She is completely reliant on the wheelchair to leave the house.

She said: “I had just come from a baby group and my carer was getting me and Jessica, my one-year-old, into the house.

“The wheelchair was attached to the pushchair so my carer could push me and I could push Jessica, and we left it in the porch.

“We had a cup of coffee and when we came back outside about an hour later, it had gone.”

Mrs Dunn said it was not the first time the family had been hit by thieves.

Last month her children’s bikes were taken from the garden, while just two days before Christmas, gifts she had bought for her family were stolen from the front seat of her car while she was distracted.

Mrs Dunn said: “My husband Eddie had taken the children into the house and I had turned around briefly to help my son, who had fallen over and hurt his arm and they stole all the presents off the front seat.

“It just makes me very sad that somebody would do this to a disabled mother.

“I thought even thieves had some morals, but obviously not.

“They’ve left me now, completely housebound.

“Being disabled you feel vulnerable enough. I already feel like I cannot protect my children, but this has really shaken me. My six-year-old son Matthew has been really affected by it.

She added: “He is so frightened they’ll come back. He sat on the stairs last night, fully dressed, waiting for them.

“I just want anyone who knows anything to come forward or for whoever has got my wheelchair, to just give it back.”

The wheelchair and pushchair were stolen last Thursday at around midday.

Pc Jan Warner, from Thames Valley Police’s Cowley neighbourhood policing team, said: “I would like to ask residents if they see any of these items, to let me know and similarly, if they saw any suspicious behaviour at the time, to contact us on 08458 505505.”
