THE United Learning Trust’s withdrawal as sponsor leaves the county council’s plans to replace Oxford School with an academy in disarray.
It is high time that councillor Michael Waine and his team focused their efforts instead on supporting the school and listening to the views of the community it serves.
To this end, the council should, without delay: reinstate the school’s properly-elected and constituted governing body, or add former governors to the Interim Executive Board to ensure balanced representation and effective governance; commence the build of the long-awaited new science block; reinstate Oxford School as the county’s number one priority for Building Schools for the Future funding; get the recruitment process under way for a new headteacher to start in time for September 2010; and transparently investigate and consult on all possible options for taking Oxford School forward from September 2010.
