The River Thame and Chalgrove Brook have been put back on flood watch by the Environment Agency.

Rainfall overnight coupled with melting snow means that river levels are rising in some areas.

The area affected is from Marsworth to Shillingford including, Long Marston, Rowsham, Cuddington, Thame, Shabbington, Ickford, Waterperry, Wheatley, Drayton St Leonard and Dorchester, and also the Chalgrove Brook at Chalgrove and Stadhampton.

Environment Agency experts believe that the risk of the present flood watches - the lowest level of alert - being updated to the more serious flood warning status is low.

Property flooding is not expected but the Environment Agency is constantly monitoring river levels.

Current forecasts predict that there will not be any further heavy rainfall today and further rainfall expected this week is unlikely to lead to flood warnings.

John Cooper, flood warning duty officer, said: “We have issued flood watches because river levels are rising due to the rainfall overnight and melting snow which could result in flooding of low level land and roads in some areas. We are not expecting any further heavy rainfall today, and expect a clear day tomorrow.
