YOBS who hurled giant plant pots on to railway lines and damaged buildings with graffiti during a night of attacks have been warned their vandalism could have cost lives.

Three giant planters were smashed and thrown on to tracks at Shipton-under-Wychwood station and vandals etched graffiti into a coffee vending van and train carriages at Charlbury station in the early hours of Sunday, December 13.

In a separate incident on the same night louts used a spray can to deface a telephone box at Heyford station, graffitied the footbridge and stole a platform sign.

Three boys, two aged 15 and one aged 14, have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to the Shipton and Charlbury attacks and released on bail.

Network Rail spokesman Russell Spink said: “Throwing objects on to the railway has the potential to cause massive disruption and even death should a train hit something and become derailed. Trains can travel at 125mph and take the length of 20 football pitches to stop.”
