Sir – How odd for councillor Michael Waine (Letters, December 17) to criticise your correspondent, Martin Sheldon. The only reason St Christopher’s is not part of the academy proposals for Oxford Community School is a hard-fought campaign by the parents of that primary school.

There has been a complete lack of information for students, parents, and teachers about the county council’s plans for Oxford School. It is only in January, when forced to do so by the Labour Government, that the county will actually start consulting the people that matter.

The Oxford School governors have been casually dismissed for having the temerity to criticise plans for an academy run by the controversial United Learning Trust. This is despite significant improvements in exam results this year. Councillor Waine’s policy seems to be to shuffle off responsibility for as many schools as possible to Government-run academies.
