Sir – May I draw to your readers’ attention that in my experience as a daily commuter that during rush hour in St Giles the 20mph limit is almost universally ignored?

Those that do try to adhere to it risk beeping horns and dangerous driving from anyone behind. This is very bad news for any learner motorcyclists like myself who have to deal with this behaviour from supposedly experienced drivers.

It is also dangerous for the large numbers of student cyclists on their way to college and families trying to cross the road from the parking bays on each side.

I have seen so many near misses that I am afraid something will happen sooner or later especially now that winter is upon us. I feel the only way to solve the problem of persistent speeding in St Giles is to install a visible speed camera but I fear this will not happen until something far worse does.
