Oxford United fans are being invited to a Christmas auction and raffle party near the Kassam Stadium to raise money for the 12th Man fund for new players.

The fund was launched in July and has already raised £5,000 for the re-signing of Witney-born forward Jamie Cook from Blue Square Premier Crawley, in September.

On Saturday, after the home game against Ebbsfleet United, a party is being held at The Priory pub near the Kassam Stadium to raise more money for the fund.

Landlord Tim Rackley said: “We are going to give 20 per cent of the bar takings to the fund so if we take £5,000 that will be another £1,000 to help buy players for the club.

“I think the fund could reach the £20,000 mark on Saturday and £25,000 by Christmas.”

Mark Sennett, of fans’ group OxVox, which helped to organise the event, added: “The party will be a great chance for fans to have fun and meet some of the players.

“We have some great prizes up for grabs in both the auction and the raffle. We hope to see as many fans as possible at the party.”

Since July, other fundraising schemes have included the sale of 2,000 wristbands costing a minimum £1 donation, and a sponsored walk from Kidlington to the Kassam Stadium.

The party will start at 5.30pm, and other events include snail racing and a visit from Santa.

Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas added: ”What a great way to celebrate what has become a part of Oxford United.

“The 12th Man fund symbolises what is so good about the football club at the moment and the way that the fans, the club, and local businesses are working together for a common goal is special to watch.

“The Priory has been a big part of the success of the 12th Man so far – and hats off to Tim and the crew there whose support has not gone unnoticed.

“I expect this event is going to be a good one.”
