Susan Thomas’s letter against the proposed residents’ parking scheme in East Oxford is very misleading.
She writes as if speaking generally for residents of the area, when in fact the plan is supported by large numbers of people who have, for years, had great difficulty parking near their houses. Far from being “left without a voice” on the “hated scheme”, the county council has just circulated a fourth consultation, and has, throughout, been adjusting it in response to residents’ concerns. The most recent changes include greatly improved parking arrangements for those visiting the Magdalen Road shops.
The meeting organised by John Tanner and others was not done out of “kindness” but out of old-fashioned political opportunism – seeing a bandwagon rolling and jumping on to it.
Ms Thomas may not want the parking scheme; many of us do.
