Susan Thomas (Oxford Mail, November 27) for her kind words.

Residents’ parking between Iffley and Cowley Roads will make things worse. It will cost residents £50 a year, plus £15 for visitors permits, to park their car. But there will be fewer places to park. The Magdalen Road Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), as now proposed, will force drivers to park on pavements where now those pavements are free of cars. Iffley Fields residents have already campaigned successfully to be excluded from the zone.

Pushing cars on to pavements will increase traffic speeds.

Anyone under 70 who has more than one car-borne visitor a week will have to pay for visitor permits. It will be just as difficult to park but residents will have to pay for the privilege.

No wonder hundreds of local residents have already signed a petition opposing these CPZ plans.

The county council is again consulting local people and it is important that everyone, whatever their views, tells the council what they think.
