TWO best friends who were inspired by television images from Afghanistan, have raised hundreds of pounds for injured soldiers.

Sebastian Bearn, 12, and George Duggan, 11, who are Year Seven classmates at Christ Church Cathedral School, in Brewer Street, Oxford, handed over a £231 cheque to the 3 Regiment Army Air Corps in aid of the Help For Heroes charity.

The pair ran five miles in the rain around Christ Church Meadow earlier this month to raise sponsorship money.

Sebastian said: “I saw a soldier on the news. He was missing an eye, and I felt sorry for him. So I thought why not do something to help?”

They presented the cheque to Sgt Chris Pickett, of 3 Regiment Army Air Corp, at a school assembly on Friday.
