ANDREA Garner had never won anything before, so she held little hope for the latest competition she entered.

But the lucky 26-year-old from Blackbird Leys has ended her losing streak in spectacular style – winning an all-expenses-paid trip to New York.

Ms Garner and fiancé David Devonish will enjoy a helicopter flight above the city, a £500 spending spree, tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway, a Sex and the City tour and cocktails in a famous New York bar.

She was selected from thousands of people after visiting the Timeless Polo Film Festival at the Oxford Odeon, in Gloucester Green, last month.

Ms Garner, an administration clerk, said she was “delighted and shocked” at winning the prize. She said: “This is amazing, I can’t believe it.

“I was completely shocked when I found out I’d won as I’ve never won anything before in my life.

“I just entered the competition for a laugh – I never once though I would win.

“I’ve never been to New York before but it’s one of the places I have always wanted to visit so I’m really excited.

“I can’t wait to go.

“I’m really looking forward to everything that’s included in the holiday, but I’m most excited about the helicopter ride – and, of course, the £500 shopping spree.”

Throughout October, film fans in Oxford voted on their favourite classic movie and about 200 received free tickets to see the winning film, Mamma Mia.

Ms Garner was one of more than 41,000 people across the country to have been entered into the draw for the big holiday prize.

She said: “I’d never seen the film before but had always wanted to so it was a great to be able to see it on the big screen for free – winning the holiday has been a bonus.”

The Timeless Polo Film Festival was organised by Volkswagen retailer Motorworld Oxford, in Iffley Road, to mark the launch of the German manufacturer’s latest model.

Marketing manager Lyn Molony said: “We wanted to make our Polo launch special and the film festival was a really unique and different way of marking its arrival.

“We were surprised but over the moon to hear that someone from Oxford won the holiday – Volks-wagen retailers all over the country held similar events.

“We would like to congratulate Andrea and her fiancé, and we are sure they will have an amazing experience.”
